“They were incredibly powerful. Like, rip-your-guts-out stuff. They could go from adorable to chilling in a turn of a phrase.”

“Sullivan will continue…revolution in their time as the Denver Youth Poet Laureate and thereafter.”

Highlights from the Press about

Ayla Xuân Chi

"In a time when it seems impossible to create something new out of an ancient craft, Sullivan guts and molds new images out of love poetry that will leave your heart wrenched and brain spinning. They twist the definition of a love poem into a space that’s simultaneously challenging and comfortable for both the poet and the audience.

Hire a Witch who Knows what They’re Talking About

I’m sure you’ve seen them before, the writer who can “write about anything”. They’re talented. They went to a liberal arts college. They know what to not rap in public. And they can make you feel whispers of an emotion, but something’s always missing.

Me.

Hire a witch who knows what they’re talking about and I promise you’ll see the difference. It’s not an attack, it’s an invitation. I’m more than an astrologer, I’m more than a writer.  My Mercury in Aries makes sure I tell you the truth, no matter how fiery. Roasting is a love language. I’m not here to judge, I’m here to name your grief and disarm your shadow. That’s the role of an artist and a shaman.

More than a Copywriter: a Copy Alchemist

If you want to sell, hire a copywriter. If you want to make intergenerational impact: hire a copy alchemist. My writing is the intimacy between flesh and bone, it’s an ancient nudge in the right direction. I find the gold in the lead, no matter what I’m writing or what audience I reach.

Here’s a look at my newsletter when I center on alchemy. This newsletter alone helped me achieve a 30% increase in revenue.

Dearest,

I am writing you on the other side of the most glorious, serendipitous sojourn to the Shawanagunk Mountains (aka The Gunks for my fellow climber bros out there).

On my side of the universe, I am immensely sore and have a gentle tickle in my throat because I got intimate with sweet quartz, shale, and sandstone in the pouring rain. (That's a poet's way of describing rock climbing.)

I'm noticing something within me that may be helpful to you. This lesson comes from many patterns. It comes from being someone who moves through the world with complex PTSD, it comes from being socialised and often perceived as a woman, and it also comes from living in and loving New York City.

I've noticed recently that my capacity for adrenaline is immense. I can weather a storm, in fact my masculinity tends to be affirmed through how much I can withstand (which also can come in conflict with how my femininity has been taught to do so in silence). This feels deeply Taurean to me, the role of the Bull as an archetype who is resilient in the slow, sustained pace of life. So what I rarely prep for is not the doom or chaos in which I thrive, but the aftermath or the wake.

When you are a person who experiences a significant amount of trauma back to back, we can often find ourselves believing that we just have to get through the shit. We rarely talk about what we do after, how to genuinely recover, and how to enjoy the lushness of recovery. We can be people who have exercised the muscle of jumping ship/taking the leap, but forget how to exercise the muscles that know how to stick the landing. Taurus season is all about reminding us perseverance is not simply for perseverance sake. To genuinely persevere is to genuinely accept rest as part of the cycle of resilience.

Trust, ya boi is still actively learning this beside you! And what a sweet treat I don't have to do it alone!

Another joy I wanted to share with you from this romantic rock climbing trip in the rain, is how liminal it all felt. There we were, climbers and instructors, shrouded in thick, humid, fog. All of us were there on a wet, humid, Sunday afternoon, blanketed in the visual manifestation of mystery. Everything simultaneously invisible and (the closest things to us) hypervisible. Against the Mystery, trees, foliage, moss, and more became a beacon of green.

Connecting to Contrast is a key exercise in my work. It's the first step we take in not only disrupting patterns, but creating a pathway towards true, transformational change. There, in the light of the fog and the vibrant, green leaves, all you can do is connect to contrast, to notice the visible in relation to the invisible.

There's no sugar coating the fuckery we're experiencing right now. Shit is fucked. And it creates a dense fog of confusion quite literally on purpose. Of course we can feel anxious, fearful, dysregulated, and dissociated in the haze of human rights violation after human rights violation.

And so: what we do in the fog is our great accomplice in this work of building and embodying the world we wish to see.

Consider this news-letter an invitation to consider your relationship to the fog. You may journal this, voice note it, or take it over with a friend.

  • What does your body do or how does it respond to fog or low visibility?

  • What do you notice in the contrast between what's foggy and what's clear?

  • How does the fog actually enhance clarity around what you can see?

  • How do other people, organisms, or other living beings move in the fog?

What I noticed in the fog is that while I was disoriented or confused by it, the forest always knew exactly where it was. The trees belonged as the moss belonged as the mud and shale belonged. Observing the pattern helped me ground into the knowing that while I may feel lost or the collective feels lost/confused, the world/the Earth always knows exactly where it is and where we are in relation. There are so many beautiful things we can learn in the fog, especially when we're in relationship to our inner being and all of life that is around us.
